Is the style of ETI disclosure benevolent or part of government cover-up, or both?
June 2026

Researchers at the Institute of Noetic Sciences (IONS) used artificial intelligence and other methods to analyze semantics across trance-channeled messages from extra-terrestrial intelligence (ETA) and ufological records. A common theme was that ETIs will increasingly make their existence known to humans on Earth, according to a pre-print article of study, currently under peer review.
People who allege being in contact with ETIs [also called non-human intelligence (NHI) by other sources] whether through UAP encounters or by trance channeling, reported that aliens are revealing their existence in a multi-stage process. The witness stories had very high similarity scores, meaning tens of thousands of documents containing ETI experiences were “highly convergent” on the subject of disclosure.
Channelers tended to describe disclosure ss a benevolent process and natural evolution, “Disclosure is initiated not by governments but by shifts in individual and collective frequency, with contact increasing as fear diminishes and curiosity grows,” Helane Wahbeh and team wrote. People who had UAP encounters consistently reported the process is being managed through “governmental secrecy, media conditioning, and geopolitical constraints.”
Those two takes are not mutually exclusive.
The study did not attempt to explain the similarities and differences in the two types of stories. It noted separate empirical studies have made similar findings. For instance, in her years of direct interviews with top-level scientists who claim they are in contact with ETIs, Diana Walsh Pasulka (University of North Carolina, Wilmington) heard similar disclosure themes, the study says.
Wahbeh and her co-researchers said their study isn’t claiming aliens and disclosure are real. They acknowledged the patterns in ETI stories could be explained by the shared ways that humans think symbolically. The results on some AI prompts, however, show unusual consistency, enough that the research technique should be explored further, the researchers conclude.
The study employed three transformer-based language models (MiniLM, MPNet, and QA MPNet) to analyze two large but distinct datasets of accounts of communications between humans and extraterrestrials.
Across cultures and history, individuals have channeled various nonhuman intelligences such as angels, gods, and higher intelligences often through ritual, visionary, or trance-based practices.
IONS’ mission is to “use the power of science to explore our inner space.” Wahbeh is one of the world’s leading experts on the phenomenon of channeling and is a trance channeler.
