A long-standing enigma in quantum physics is the observer effect. Observing or measuring a quantum object, like a photon, changes the behavior of that object. This implies that consciousness is somehow affecting the physical world. There are other interpretations, but independently repeated empirical evidence supports the idea that this mind-matter interaction effect is real.
The Institute of Noetic Sciences, IONS is now initiating an experiment that addresses this scientific problem. The experiment is called Sigil, an acronym for a Scientific Investigation of Gazing with Intuition at Light. It aims to investigate our ability to see, not with our eyes, but with our “mind’s eye” – basically an exploration of the power of mind over matter.
IONS is now looking for adult volunteers with training in focused attention, such as experienced meditators or martial artists.
“The goal is to explore if focused attention and intention can cause a measurable change in the behavior of light”, said Dean Radin, chief scientist at IONS.
“These kinds of studies require a great deal of data”.
