Four international scientists in psychology, philosophy and neuroscience reject the methodology for consciousness science that the so-called unfolding argument (UA) proscribes. According to UA, “causal structure theories” are either false or outside the realm of science. The most known causal structure theory is the Integrated Information Theory (IIT).
In their joint paper, the four authors argue that this is overly restrictive. “The reasoning of UA must be flawed”, they write.
In sum, the four scientists want to safeguard consciousness research from restrictive assumptions.
