Music-based interventions are known to strengthen neural pathways in the brain. For example, listening to music can improve memory and sensorimotor processes. However, much of the evidence so far is anecdotal or stems from small studies.
The U.S. National Institutes of Health’s branch for complementary and integrative health now offers a funding opportunity for continued research on how music can slow or possibly reverse symptoms of brain disorders of aging, such as Alzheimer’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease-related dementias, Parkinson’s disease, and stroke.
The application deadlines are in February and June of 2024.
