November/December 2023
UPDATE: Watch the recorded debate on YouTube.
A highly interesting open debate on the nature of consciousness will take place on 2 December between three prominent figures in the field:
• Anil Seth, a leading neuroscientist who has labeled himself a “pragmatic materialist”.
• Biologist Rupert Sheldrake, best known for his hypothesis of morphic resonance and his criticism of the materialistic paradigm of modern science.
• Tanya Marie Luhrmann, an anthropologist focusing her research on “the edge of experience”: voices, visions and the world of the supernatural.
The debate will take on “the deep scientific and philosophical mystery of consciousness” and try to answer the question of whether science can solve what philosopher David Chalmers called the “hard problem of consciousness”.
It is arranged by the Holberg Prize at the university of Bergen and takes place in Bergen, Norway.
